Several dogs and cats (domestic cats and tigers) in-tuned with infected
humans have tested positive for COVID-19. Additionally, ferrets appear to be
vulnerable to the infection. In experimental conditions, both cats and
ferrets were ready to transmit infection to other animals of the identical
species. However, there's no evidence that these animals can transmit the
disease to humans and spread COVID-19. COVID-19 is especially spread
through droplets produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or speaks.
It is still recommended that peoples who are sick with COVID-19 please be in limit contact with companion and other
animals. When handling and caring for animals, basic hygiene measures
should be implemented. This includes hand washing after handling animals,
their food or supplies, similarly as avoiding kissing, licking or sharing food.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports
that companion animals including dogs and other pets, cannot contract or spread
COVID-19. Also, the World Health Organization (WHO) says there’s no evidence
the virus has infected any dogs or cats. However, because animals and
peoples can sometimes share diseases (called zoonotic diseases), the CDC
recommends those who are sick or under medical attention for COVID-19 to limit
contact with companion and other animals until more is understood about
the virus. Instead, have an addict or loved one make sure of your pet until
your health provider says you have cleared the virus. If you're ill with
COVID-19 and must be sure of your own pet, practice good hygiene and wear a
mask, if possible.
What we've to try and do:
• A small number of pets worldwide, including cats and dogs, are
reported to be infected with the virus that causes COVID-19, mostly
after close contact with people with COVID-19.
• Based on the limited information available up to now, the danger of
animals spreading COVID-19 to people is taken into account to be low.
. • It appears that the virus that causes COVID-19 can spread from
people to animals in some situations.
. • Treat pets as you'd other human relations – don't let pets interact
with people outside the household.
• If an individual inside the household becomes sick, isolate that
person from everyone else, including pets.
