BEST GUARD DOG BREEDS

DOBERMAN PINSCHER:-As we know Doberman is the one of the best guard dog breeds. Doberman breed was created from several breeds by a German, Karl Louis Doberman in around 1890. Doberman was a Tax collector, night watchman and dog catcher and needed a protection dog to guard him as he travelled around the dangerous bandit-infested areas around Thueringen, South Central Germany. He spent 60 years perfecting the ultimate loyal, intelligent, ferocious protection dog before the first Doberman was registered in 1893.

BELGIAN MALINOIS:- The Belgian Malinois is a medium/large size dog that weighs between 40-80 lbs and is between 22" to 26" in height. They are one of four Belgian Sheepdogs and are very work oriented and are protective of home, family and livestock. The AKC recognizes the Belgian Malinois in the colors of fawn to mahogany to red with a black mask, ears and tips. Minimal white on the chest and feet is permitted. The short, smooth, straight and hard outer coat and dense undercoat require minimal grooming and are very easy to care for. This intelligent, energetic, protective breed is still more of a working dog than companion. They have a strong drive to work. The Belgian Malinois makes an excellent farm dog, watchdog, police dog and herding dog because of their instinct to protect their family, home or whatever else they are trained to protect. They can make a great family pet as well. Early socialization is a must for children, other dogs and pets. In fact, they do best if they are socialized from the time they are born. They can be dominant towards other dogs.

GERMAN SHEPHERD:- The German Shepherd dog is amongst the most intelligent of dogs and its versatility and excellence in performing all manner of activities has secured its eternal position in the hall of fame when it comes to policing duties, search and rescue, military functions such as bomb sniffing and even as sight-seeing dogs for people who are blind or those with impaired eyesight. The German Shepherd is a quick study and due to their innate high intelligence are very easy to train. These dogs are active, alert and like many other animals of a high intelligence and active nature the German Shepherd needs to be constantly challenged and stimulated both physically and mentally to avoid becoming a nuisance. That said, this dog breed makes a great companion and is both brave and loyal.

CANE CORSO:- The Cane Corso's roots date based to the Roman Empire days. In fact the Latin name for the pet is "Cohors," which means "Guardian," "Protector." The Cane Corso was known as a war dog, and was often sent to battle all kinds of wild beasts including Lions. This Italian Mastiff was later known for it's economic advantages in Italy, where pet's needed to full some sort of working need. It was often used in the field of agriculture, for hunting purposes and also for guarding the farm against unwanted predators. It would help in shepherding the animals to market and also to the slaughterhouse. The 1970's nearly saw the near extinction of the breed. The attraction of the Cane Corso with dog lovers was lost, and wasn't returned till 1976 when Doctor Breber, an enthusiastic dog lover and researcher into the traditions of Italy. Dr. Breber formed the S.A.C.C. (Società Amatori Cane Corso), which was a sort of rescue mission to revive the Breed. With some astute breeding skills the dog was finally given a new birth.

ROTTWEILER:- When I was considering which breed of dog and the characteristics for the dog I was planning to own the Rottweiler origin and its majestic attributes, its history and social background. According to popular belief the Rottweiler originated in Germany in a Town called Rottweil and there were known as German Rottweiler Melzgerhund or Rottweiler butcher dogs. There are so named because they would be harness to a cart to pull the butcher,s meat to market. The butchers also used to tie their money around their Rottweiler,s neck, in order to prevent themselves from being robbed. Rottweilers was also used to herding, some suggest that there were also used for hunting, but today is Rottweiler does not exhibit that tendency. After the mid-19th century the Rottweiler role changed due to their intelligent nature. There were use for such things as search and rescue, police dogs, arm forces dogs, guide dogs, not to mention their greatest attribute which is as guard dogs.

PRESA CANARIO:- Perro de Presa Canario, Canary Dog, and Dogo Canario, all are the name of a loving and brave dog, a true Molosser type dog from the Canary Islands. The breed was developed in the 18th century specifically to guard the farms, to protect and drive the livestock as well as to get rid wild dogs but due to their multitasking abilities and courage, they soon become the man's best friend, finding themselves a space inside the man's house as their family members. They are tough and aggressive by nature. Especially suited to guarding and defense, Presas are a type of dogs who will lay down their life for you. They don't like strangers and are very much devoted to protecting its family members. Their powerful bodies denote their overall strength. Their broad, massive, square shaped head and powerful broad muzzle and jaw make them fit for defending activities. Their broad, muscular chest, a slightly raised rump and a powerful back, give them an overall impression of an imposing and intimidating guard dog.

DOGO ARGENTINO:- The origin and history of the Dogo Argentino dog breed begins, as evidenced by its name, in Argentina in the province of Cordoba. In fact, it is the only recognized dog breed in existence today that originates from this South American coutry. The Dogo Argentino (or sometimes the Argentinian Mastiff) was developed primarily by Dr. Antonio Nores Martinez with the help of his brother Agustin. The brothers were both dog lovers and also avid hunters. Martinez wanted a dog that was a great hunter, fierce and loyal, with great stamina and endurance while also being a great family pet and guardian. In the 1920s Dr. Martinez developed this large breed dog by methodically and carefully crossing about ten different breeds together. The Dogo Argentino dog breed derives its origin from a mix of dogs. The foundation for the new breed was the now extinct Old Cordoba Fighting Dog that was known as a fierce fighter and a proficient hunter, but lacked many of the other qualities that Martinez was looking for in a perfect hunting dog. The Cordoba Fighting Dog was mixed with the Great Dane, Bull Terrier, Boxer, Pointer, Great Pyrenees, Old English Bulldog, Irish Wolfhound, Dogue de Bordeaux and the Spanish Mastiff.

TIBETIAN MASTIFF:- Tibetian Mastiff can stand 26 inches at the shoulder and weigh well over 100 pounds. It’s impossible to discuss this breed without leaning on words like “powerful,” “muscular,” “massive,” and “substantial.” And yet, Tibetian Mastiff are quite light-footed and will meet a perceived threat with surprising agility. The broad head, with its high-set, V-shaped ears and expressive brown eyes, projects a noble, sagacious expression. The Tibetan Mastiff is a highly intelligent, independent thinker and is protective to an extreme degree. He loves his family fiercely and tends to be good with children, but he is not for everyone. He needs firm, consistent training and moderate activity in order to be the gentle. They need proper socialization or they will be very dangerous for strangers.
